Hello friends! This has been a tough summer weather wise in the Adirondacks but between the torrential downpours that did terrible damage to nearby towns and the haze in the air from the Canadian wildfires, there have still been some beautiful moments. And we've gotten a few projects done too. Working on this little cabin is such a labor of love for us. Want to take a peak at what we've done?
In the kitchen, we added a pot rack over the island. This island is the hub of the house here and nothing makes me happier than seeing all of my people gathered around it. It's hard to remember how the house functioned before it. Over the island, we built a DIY pot rack for added storage. I was a bit unsure about it at first (as I am with all of my crazy ideas) but I really do love the personality it adds to this space.
I toyed around with the idea of painting the kitchen island a cheery yellow this spring but ultimately decided against it. But I still wanted another pop of yellow so we painted the door yellow. I think it was a good compromise to bring in (even more) color.
There is a small mudroom that leads to the back porch that I don't photograph often but what a hardworking space this is! We completely switch out which gear we store in here with the seasons.
Our small back porch got a refresh this year from our friends at Plow and Hearth. They are a favorite source for item for the cabin.
Another great source for cabin items is VHC brands. They helped us get ready our front porch summer ready and we also worked together on our refreshed family room (that will be the next post!)
Almost all of our bedding at the cabin comes from VHC brands. Their Wyatt bedding adds a great rustic touch to our youngest son's room.
This is one last look at the family room "as it was". We've just completed a few changes in here with more to come. But all that brick on the fireplace wall is now softened and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.
We've also been working on a garden! Phew, we've been busy. Gardening is something I'm always been interested in but this year, now that my kids are grown and I have more time, I am learning so much and fully immersing myself into it.
Even the sky seems to be showing our cabin some love in the pic below.💙
And of course we get out INTO the Adirondacks as often as we can. We visited a gem of a spot called Boreas Ponds where Dax got to go for a swim, living up to that "lucky dog" name for sure.
And almost always end the day with an evening walk through the trails before returning to camp. Dax always leads the way.
What a beautiful blog! Thank you for posting all your upgrades & summer vibes.🌿☀️🌿Jeannie

ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I appreciate you letting me know. :)
DeleteBeautiful! We’re also renovating a cabin in the ADKs and I’m pretty sure we painted my kitchen cabinets the same color you chose for your island. Great minds think alike!😉
ReplyDeleteThat's great! And I'm sure you love the Adirondacks as much as we do too.
DeleteI can’t decide if I love your home or your cabin more!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!! For me, I prefer the cabin but that's probably because all of the stresses of "real life" aren't as present there.
DeleteI love love love your cabin!! I was debating on buying a lamp a few weeks ago at a thrift store and I asked myself, “Would this fit the style of the Lucky Dog cabin?” Yes, yes it would. So I bought it…and I LOVE it. :D
ReplyDeleteOh, I LOVE that!! I just bought a lamp at a thrift store last week too! It looks like a basket and it's now in our family room at the cabin. Pre-loved treasures are the best.
DeleteYou are living our dream with both of your beautiful homes. Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!! Both of our homes are fixer uppers that we've poured so much of ourselves into so your kind words mean so much.
DeleteLove everything about this cabin, the colors, textures, whimsy, views and privacy. It's like you're living my dream! What brand/color of paint did you use on the kitchen cabinets? Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHello! The cabinets are painted Backwoods by Benjamin Moore. Thanks so much for your kind words!! Courtney
