Hi friends and Happy Holidays! I hope that you and yours are safe and well this holiday season. Things surely will be different this year but, since we're all spending more time at home, this feels like an especially good year to bring out the holiday decor early. Or not. I have to say that there were times this year when I wasn't sure I'd find the motivation to decorate. It has been a tough year for so many on so many levels and that weighs heavily on my heart. I've been feeling especially nostalgic as of late, remembering back to a time when my boys were younger and Christmas was such a magical time. And so I am making the effort to focus on the positive and my hope is that I can bring a little bit of joy to your holiday season with these pictures.
I'm joining in with Jen Rizzo's Holiday Housewalk again this year, always a fun tradition. If you are stopping by from Finding Silver Pennies, welcome!
Let's start in the kitchen where I went with a Santa's Toy Shop theme. I didn't want to spend a lot on decor this year so I mostly re-used things I have collected over the years with a couple of small new (super affordable!) things added in to keep things fresh.
I enjoy a more colorful holiday home and really brought out the whimsy and fun side of things in here. It feels right and makes me smile each morning when I come downstairs for coffee in the morning. I purchased the fabric for the sink skirt at Joann's. I love the colors and the retro vibe it brings to the space along with the colorful wreath of vintage style ornaments that I've had for years.
For curtains, I used a set of tea towels that I purchased on Amazon. As luck would have it, the set I ordered came with 2 of the same patterned towel that I was hoping to like best when it should have come with 3 different patterns. And the whole towel fit perfectly on the full length of my windows. Felt serendipitous to me!
I found these
small red houses at Target ($5 each) and since they matched the sink skirt so well, I bought them to add to a couple of glass jars. These jars usually house bath salts in my bathroom but I bring them downstairs for Christmas.
Another fun frugal find was the stickers that I used to create the Gingerbread Bakery art to turn my generic bread box into a Christmas bread box. The vinyl sticker set cost just $1 at Dollar General and changed the whole look of the bread box.
To decorate the vintage sled that has become a tradition in itself to place over our kitchen island, I used only items that we have in our collection of Christmas things. The Claus & Co box was from Michaels last year but they have great patterns that are very similar to this each year.
For a simple table centerpiece, I added 3 village Christmas ornament ($3 each) from Target to a cake stand with bottlebrush trees.
I used the rest of the fabric from the sink skirt to make a small table runner.
Over the in the living room, I wanted to go with a sweet country vibe that was inspired by this holiday rug I found at Marshalls. I love the colors and how it perfectly matches our fair isle mitten garland from Garnet Hill that we've had for years.
I decided to put my big Balsam Hill tree on this level for this year so it could be enjoyed from all these spaces. Normally I would need to leave this space free to add leaves to our table when we host Christmas dinner but sadly there won't be a big Christmas dinner here this year. Although we will miss our extended family, it is so much more important to us that everyone stays healthy so we can be together for all the wonderful moments still to come.
This tree is full of all of our collected ornaments and if I only put up one tree, this would be it.
I went with a Ski Lodge them in our master bedroom, inspired by the sign over our bed from
The Gray House Design Co. You can find my friend Christine's beautiful signs on Etsy.
I love having a tree in our bedroom. In fact, this is the first bit of holiday decor I put up this year and it will probably be the last to come down. There's something so welcoming about Christmas lights when I go up to bed in the evening.
I always add some Christmas touches to our Master Bathroom.
There's another one of those rugs from Marshalls in here, this one from last year. I love how these rugs are so versatile and affordable and I seemingly have begun a collection of them.
Finally, our family room has a more neutral decor scheme that I also enjoy. It's nice to have a place in the house to go that isn't quite so full of color. The addition of lots of lots of texture keeps it interesting and festive. The only thing new in here is the Comfort & Joy sign over the fireplace (a $10 Christmas Tree Shops find).
We spent this past weekend decorating our cabin in the woods so I will be back with post with those pictures later in the week. I hope you'll stop back to see it. Here's a sneak peek of that - yep, there's an old vintage sled over the island there too!
You can also find me on Instagram, where I post much more frequently. I welcome you to connect with me there!
From our family to yours, we wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday season. Merry Christmas!

DeleteVisiting today, just love your holiday decor. So cheerful and really like the retro vibe. Made me smile and I needed that today. So, wondering about your master bath paint color, I have been adding this color as an accent in our home this year and think it would be nice in a few places. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that our home made you smile. Our master bathroom is painted Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. It's a lovely color that leans either towards green or blue depending on the lighting in the room.
