Fall Kitchen

Happy October and welcome to our Autumn kitchen. I think my favorite added element in this space at this time of the year is the warm light that floods the room in the afternoon. I especially love how it reflects on the copper pots that hang on our DIY pot rack. Our pot rack holds a combination of useful and decorative things. I hang our often-used colanders, cheese grater, measuring cups/spoons and tea pot on here and it's super convenient to have them right over the island.

Someone recently asked me on Instagram if I cook with the copper pots that I have been slowly collecting and the answer to that is no. I do have to take them down and polish them a couple of times a year and that's just with them hanging there. I think the upkeep of using them to cook daily would be too much for me at this stage of my life. So, truth be told, I cook in my good 'ole Rachael Ray pots everyday, along with the Staub cast iron pot that always sits on my stove. I do use that most days. :)

I enjoy collecting small kitchen items and my new addition this year is the Pumpkin bread box that I found at HomeGoods. I am thinking I will add some sort of Christmas design to the back of it so it will be useful in both seasons. At least that was my rational when I was standing in HomeGoods debating whether I needed another bread box. ;)

The small wreaths hanging in the windows are from JoAnn Fabrics and I doubled them up, so there are two in each window. I hung them using some ribbon that I "caught" in the top of the double hung windows. The Pumpkin Spice Season sign was from Michaels last year. And, I made some "curtains" out of cloth napkins from HomeGoods that matched the tablecloth I used to make the sink skirt.

Shopping the Target Dollar Spot in fall is always fun! It's an affordable way to add some seasonal decor. I picked up a few of the small signs in the photo above as well as the farm fresh apple bag. I added some garland from there to our chandelier too.

Finally, here's a quick peak of our back deck, where we eat pretty much all of our meals weather permitting. Although the weather has been warm in NJ, some of the leaves changed early and so I took this picture on a recent Sunday morning when we enjoyed Billy's pumpkin pancakes - my husband is the official breakfast chef in our family. They were delicious.
