Autumn in Vermont 2017

Hello friends and Happy November. Today is the day that everything magically turns to Christmas in blogland. Ha! Not ready for that yet so I thought I would pop in to share some pictures of a recent quick trip we took to Vermont.  It has been an odd fall foliage wise, for sure. But the tradeoff has been some amazing warm temperatures throughout September and October so I am not complaining. On this trip, we visited southern Vermont, an area that is farther to reach from our cabin in the Adirondacks. Billy and I escaped for a couple of days with Dax. We had a blast.
Ever since I first saw a picture of Sleepy Hollow Farm in Woodstock on Pinterest a few years back, I knew I had to experience it for myself. It certainly did not disappoint. It's definitely the stuff Vermont dreams are made of. I read stories of traffic jams and rude people during peak fall season on the road above the farm on the internet. Fortunately, it was just us, as the foliage was past peak. Dax and I spent a few minutes dreaming about what it would be like to live in this setting.
Quite frankly, this area is a bit too upscale for our taste to live in but it was a lovely place to visit. We also came across a covered bridge in Weathersfield that made up for all of the lackluster leaf color.
We headed down to the river's edge and Dax was itching to take a swim.
We stopped for lunch in the village of Grafton.  This quintessential general store is oozing with charm and, more importantly, the people there were friendly and kind. That hasn't been the case in a couple of other general stores we have stopped in. Vermont isn't always so welcoming to us flatlanders, but Grafton made us feel right at home.

This village had me at their library. Seriously, can you imagine this being your local library??
I have always dreamed of visiting Vermont in the fall and we will definitely be back next year. Thanks for living up to all the hype, Vermont! We will see you soon.

  1. If one day I come to the US, Vermont is the first place I want to see. Of course there are a lot of places I'd like to visit, but Vermont is on the top of it

  2. I think the foliage is amazing! It looks colorful enough for me! We get green, then brown and then bare! Vermont is surely on my bucket list! Thanks for the little excursion.

  3. So excited to see this post! Wow - Grafton is gorgeous! I am familiar with that area but don't think I have actually been to that town...adding it to the list. Your photos are beautiful, Courtney. You captured a ton of color even with it being past peak. Sorry to hear about the rude general store people. I am glad the people in Grafton made up for it! Thanks for sharing your photos!

    1. Thanks Shelley! It was an impromptu trip and I am so glad we made it happen even though it was late in the season.

Yes, Grafton is a gem and not too far from Woodstock. Our negative general store experience was in Dorset this past summer. It was probably just a bad day, but we definitely got a negative vibe there. Grafton was super welcoming. We will definitely return.

  5. Such wonderful photos, Courtney...looks like a great time! I'm surprised that people would be unfriendly, as tourism probably really supports the local economy.

  6. Never mind the library, I want to settle into that tavern!!!!! And oh my gosh that farm, are you kidding me? What an idyllic location - is it a B&B or just someone's home? Just perfection, I'm drooling!

    1. Yeah, that tavern looked great too! I think we would have a fun time together, Debbie!!

That is just someone’s private home. It is rumored that Joe Perry from Aerosmith once owned it. It’s called Sleepy Hollow Farm. They have a gate up and cameras to keep people out. It’s amazing, right? I want to see it in winter too.

  9. Oh my word; I want to pack up and move. I'm in North Texas and we just don't have much of a Fall season and very little Fall foliage. I've heard East Texas is pretty but nothing compared to the New England area. As usual your photos are just beautiful.
