Happy Friday! Today marks the unofficial start to summer and it is also the fourth Friday of the month, which means I am joining some super talented bloggers for Farmhouse Friday. Please be sure to check out their posts which all include a patriotic how-to just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
I like to update the gallery wall in our family room with the seasons and I just finished adding some summer inspired touches. The focal point of our summer gallery wall this year is the DIY American flag I made with some scrap wood. I took the pictures but never actually got around to sharing how I made it. This flag is so versatile and always finds a spot in our home during the summer months. To create the flag, I used 13 strips of pine (cut to 1"x2") that I painted in alternating shades of red and white. I used regular craft paint and painted the strips separately before putting the whole sign together with 2 strips of pine on the back to hold all of the pieces together. I then used painter's tape to create a rectangle, which I painted blue. It took 2 coats of paint to cover the stripes completely. Then, I used a rubber star stamp to stamp on the stars. Finally, I went over the whole flag with one step crackle to age it a bit.
I like how it gives our family room a punch of red, white and blue that goes so well with the other pieces that make up our gallery wall.
