Today, I thought I'd share a few odds and ends and a couple of things I have found in my travels. The pretty flowers in these pictures are from Walmart. They were super cheap ($5.87) and I love that they aren't the usual assortment of flowers found in a supermarket bunch. I also thought I'd share this new wallet/phone case. A couple of weeks back, Anne from Modern Mrs. Darcy shared a link to a similar wallet, and I immediately ordered one.
It is so convenient to have everything I need in one small bundle that I can grab and go. Especially at this time of year, I am either grabbing my camera bag or tote bag, so I don't need to carry a purse too. My phone is the ginormous iPhone 6 Plus, but they do make them for most of the other popular phones. I got mine on Amazon (here's a link) for $9.99.
While I was at Walmart the other day, I picked up this 3 wick candle because the scent was "Rustic Lakehouse" and, as I have mentioned too many times to count, I am forever dreaming of our someday lake house. It smells great, burns well and reminds me of the candles I usually buy at Bath & Body Works. The best part is the price is $4.93. You can find them in the aisle with the room fragrance sprays and plug-ins.
Dax is growing fast and is now 5 months old. There is so much love and chaos in our house because of this happy puppy!
It has seemingly been raining forever here in NJ so I have had time to read a few books that I thought I'd recommend. Both "The Good Girl" and "Under the Influence" kept me hooked from the first pages. "When Breath Becomes Air" was written by a neurosurgeon who was dying from a brain tumor and it was a fascinating (albeit sad) read. Because of my mom's stroke, my family has been in contact with a neurosurgeon, and it was interesting to read from a doctor's point of view. Also very emotional.
Have you read anything really good lately? I am waiting for a few requests to come in at the library. So many new great books coming out this time of year.
I am looking forward to Mother's Day Brunch at my brother's house this morning. And spending time with my guys. I hope you have a fantastic day!
I just finished a very good read. Delicious by Ruth Reichl. This is one of my top five evah favorite books. I read about 120 books a year. I know what I'm saying. She is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI have read and enjoyed a couple of books by Reichl (Comfort Me With Apples and Tender at the Bone) but I missed Delicious. Adding that to my list. Thanks for the suggestion.
DeleteWhen Breath Becomes Air was a life changer , right ? The forward was so poignant and compelling . Every word was heart wrenching you could just feel the emotion that went into it and the love Lucy had for Paul. Whew!
ReplyDeleteYes, such a heavy and thought provoking book, I couldn't stop reading.
DeleteHappy Mom's Day Courtney. Enjoy your day and all that it brings. I bet the boys are giving you big hugs today. Dax is getting so big. Still the biggest fur cutie ever! I have been looking for some good summer reads so thanks for the suggestions. Have a wonderful day my friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Love that little bunch of flowers...just perfection.
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day to you! The flowers are lovely. I haven't seen any like that at Walmart.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Love that Dax! Thanks for the book suggestions. I am just finishing up The Girl in the Glass by Susan Meissner - another enjoyable book by her. I hope those boys spoiled you yesterday! Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteShelley
Happy Belated Mother's Day, Shelley. I think it is time for me to read another Susan Meissner book too!
DeleteI'm going to have to check out that wallet....and the candle.....and the books!! The Walmart closest to my house (30 minutes away) has nothing but awful flowers, it seems....oh well. Happy belated Mother's Day, Courtney!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Mother's Day! I got the flowers at the Walmart in Monroe, NY. I don't get there often and I was pleasantly surprised by the things I found. Happy Belated Mother's Day to you too.
DeleteFun post, Courtney. :)
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be looking for that candle. It's cute and if it smells good for that price, I'm sold!
Your Dax is precious.
Thanks Stacey! Those candles are a great value. I will definitely pick up a couple of more on my next trip to Walmart. They had a few different scents I liked. Have a great week!
DeleteI just picked up those WM candles the other day! Great price. And I LOVED The Good Girl--never saw that ending coming.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise. I was thrilled with how well the candle from Walmart burned. I honestly wasn't expecting much, but they are great. I agree, such a surprise ending to a fantastic book.
DeleteOrdered the wallet for my darling daughter. getting us both the candle, too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat's great, Karen! Your daughter will love both the wallet and candle. She's lucky to have such a generous mom. :)
DeleteFinished 'When Breath Becomes Air' a couple of weeks ago and am still thinking about it. Just finished 'Ordinary Grace', a book suggested by someone on another blog, and I really liked it as well. You can read a synopsis and the first chapter at http://www.williamkentkrueger.com/ordinarygrace.html If you like non-fiction and feel like learning more about our judicial system... I highly recommend 'Blind Justice'. It will make you rethink everything you ever thought about people in prison and the wheels of justice. It is an eyeopener for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Cindy! I am off to look at your suggestions.
