A New Rug, Easter & More

Hello friends and Happy {almost} April!  Today I am sharing a few odds and ends of what we've been up to behind the scenes around here. This always seems to be such a busy time of year and we are looking forward to Spring Break in a few weeks.  Our schools scheduled spring break for later than usual this year.  We celebrated Easter with a brunch at our house before Billy had to get to work for the evening shift.  My son's girlfriend brought me this big basket of lovely tulips and I wish they would last forever.  You will see them a few times in this post because I keep moving them around the house to enjoy them while their blooms last.

I planned to take more pictures of the food and the family, but it always seems to be the same old story. I get a mimosa in hand and begin chatting and forget all about my camera.  I must say that I made all of the food ahead of time and that is definitely the key to enjoying hosting in your home.
I did manage to get a picture of the bunny butter sculpture.  And the galvanized utensil holder by the buffet.  Exciting stuff, huh?  Just call me Martha.  In reality none of that matters.  In the days following my mom's stroke last year, I feared that she would never be able to enjoy a holiday at my house again. Because it is a split level, there are stairs everywhere in our house.  Billy started planning how he would build a ramp up the stairs from the family room to our kitchen level.  I am happy to say that my mom is able to manage some stairs now and she can come here for not only holidays, but just to visit on ordinary days too.
Speaking of family, my youngest fractured his arm while skateboarding at a local skate park.  I wasn't with him when it happened, but Billy was, and I met them at the emergency room.  He'll have a cast for 3 weeks or so.  Good times!
And speaking of life with boys, Billy and I spotted a rug on clearance at Target for our family room that was 70% off.  We change the rug in here quite often so we are always on the lookout for a good deal. Between the dogs (especially a new puppy) and kids, we were in need of something new.  The only challenge was, we were only planning to pick up a few small things at Target so we had driven there in our convertible.  How would we fit the rug?  Fortunately, we have had lots of warmer temperatures this spring so we simply put the top down and let the rug hang out.
This was a fun and memorable afternoon.  And it is good thing we have this memory of that fun little car because we sold it the very next day!
I couldn't wait to see how the rug looked in our family room. It is thick and soft and I think it looks great.
That red ottoman is Dax's favorite spot to lounge.  We have definitely entered the adolescent stage of puppyhood.  I opened the back door and spotted this the other day.  Because it is so much fun to stand on top of tables.
Without a doubt, Dax has been adding a lot of smiles and excitement to our days.  Long walks to get out all of that puppy energy are necessary everyday and good for us all.
And that is a little peek of what early Spring has been like for us.  I hope you have been enjoying Spring too!

    1. Thanks Linda! My son is doing well with the cast and I know he will be back on his skateboard (with me worrying again) before long. My goldens never seem to know just how big they are. They think they are lap dogs :) Enjoy your sweet pups too.

  2. You always find the best deals and make the items work perfectly in your home. I need to go shopping with you! Sorry about your son but I guess it's expected of boys. Mine haven't broken anything yet but they have both been in for stitches. Your doggies are looking as cute as ever. I am sure they love being outside in this warmer weather.

    1. Shopping together would be so much fun, Shelley. Yup, totally expected of boys I guess. This was our very first fracture which surprises me because my boys are always up to something risky. Enjoy the beautiful weather today!

  3. The rug looks great. I love that you brought it home in a convertible! We have an Akita Shepherd who used to jump up on our patio table too when she was a puppy. There must be something fun about that for them. Glad your mom is doing so well and is able to enjoy being with family.

    1. Hi Rebecca,
Thanks! That is funny that your puppy did that too. I guess they like the view from higher up! Silly pups. You can't help but laugh with their crazy antics.

Glad your mom is doing good and could spend Easter with you guys and handle the stairs. I had to laugh because you and I are so much alike. 1. Hi Kris,

Yes, my son’s dr. was joking with us about how much faster kids heal. He said if I fractured my arm, I would need physical therapy when the cast came off and my arm might never be the same. He said kids walk out the door all healed and never look back. Aaaah to be young!

That is funny that you got the same rug. Couldn’t beat the price.

You are very missed in blogland, friend. I miss your posts but I am always so happy to see that you stopped by my blog. Have a great week.

  5. Ok next time you come to target we should meet. I live right there. Would be fun to have lunch. So sorry to hear about your son. Hopefully he's on the mend. Ah these goldens are always getting into something they know that they shouldn't. I'm so glad that your mom is able to visit with you. Her being with you is the most important thing ever.

    1. I didn't realize you lived right near Target, Jeanette. We should definitely meet up. My son is doing fine with the cast. He is missing skateboarding and bike riding, but he will be back to all of that soon enough. Gotta love how exciting and fun life with a golden is! :)

    1. Thanks Linda! I was super excited to get the rug for such a good price. Between my dogs and kids, I don't like to invest in expensive rugs in our family room because I don't want to have to worry about it. Have a great day!

  7. I am never having another puppy but I do love looking at other peoples. Your rug is very nice. And add my sympathies to your son. At least he will be well for summer..isn't that what matters to kids.

    1. Thanks Wendy. Yes, at least my son will have the cast off before swimming weather arrives. Puppies are A LOT of work so I understand why you prefer to look at pictures of other people's dogs.

  9. Great post, Courtney! I absolutely love the rug and the story of how you got it home! lol! It looks much bigger in your room and good 'ol Dax looks much bigger on your ottoman than on your deck. But that's the way dogs photograph. He is such a cutie.

You and I are long lost sisters. I simply can no longer get photos of our family holidays and events. Yes, I too have that mimosa in hand and I want have some fun when I'm not in the kitchen!!!

    See ya soon!

    1. Thanks Jane. And I think we are long lost sisters too. I just need to figure out a way to get a lake house to enjoy with my family like you have! You must be getting so excited for the summer.

  10. Never a dull moment for sure. I love the neutral rug in your living room and it looks dark enough not to worry about it all the time. Hope your son is on the mend. Summer is just around the corner and casts are definitely no fun then.
