The first thing I did was add some of my favorite things to the mantel. There is nothing new up there, just a collection of some books, a plant and a couple of vintage paint by numbers. All of these items just make me happy and I think this is a perfect reflection of my style for this year.
We brought up our old kitchen table from the basement to use for puzzles, games and homework during the next few months when we spend more time indoors. We added a new light from World Market to hang over it. We didn't have a chandelier here previously, but Billy was able to convert one of our recessed lights into a fixture for a hanging lighting (affiliate link) using this kit.
I am finding it very useful to have this spot to work in by the fireplace. In fact, that is where I am sitting as I write this post.
And I also enjoy relaxing in this leather chair by the fireplace. I am still a huge fan of the log stools I got during the holidays from Joss&Main. There is one by the leather chair by the fireplace and one as extra seating by the table.
The big round Pottery Barn Beachcomber tray that is usually under our Ikea Hack coffee table in our upstairs living room found a temporary home on the wall next to the fireplace. I had to keep my beloved basket out of harm's way from the sharp baby teeth of our teething puppy. Turns out, Dax loves baskets almost as much as I do. It will remain here for a couple of months. I love the texture it adds to the wall.
Our family's favorite activity of late is hanging out and watching our 2 dogs play together. We find it is so entertaining and we are so glad that Dax has joined our family.
We are also in the process of building a DIY ladder to hang a few quilts and throws from. More on that and our sofa plans later this week. I hope you'll stop by to read more about it.
i love the antler!!!

ReplyDeleteHi Brooke! Those sweet puppies can be terrors, right? So worth it, though. Thank you.
DeleteEverything looks so inviting. I love the log stools. The picture of the dogs together is priceless. Enjoy your winter retreat.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebecca! Those log stools are so versatile. I hope you have a cozy winter too.
DeleteOh, how I LOVE this room! Everything is exactly as I would love it in my own home! I adore your dogs!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Susan. It is my favorite room in the house too :)
DeleteOh my gosh Courtney that picture of Keeper and Dax just melted my heart. So sweet and just too cute.
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful family room. Looks so comfy and inviting for these cold winter days.

The room looks great and I love the light from World Market! Have you made it down to the NJ store yet? I need to get back there one of these days... Oh that Dax is just darling! The two of them look so sweet sitting there together. I forgot about that whole chewing phase...hopefully he will grow out of it soon! Enjoy your beautiful, cozy room!

Thanks Shelley! I've only been to the Livingston World Market. I think they opened another one in NJ but that is even further from me. I really wish they would open one in Northern NJ. Although that might be dangerous :)
DeleteWhat a cozy, warm, inviting space! Just makes me want to plop right down in that squishy leather chair and put my feet up with a glass of wine! And your pups - oh my!! Yes, the puppy stage is challenging for sure (my little monkey tried to eat my entire house, even though she was just an itty bitty thing!) but in the end, aren't they just so precious and worth it?
ReplyDeleteThank you!! I do enjoy sitting with a glass of wine in that leather chair on occasion :)
DeleteThe puppy stage won’t last forever, but it’s crazy how much you forget how much they get into at this age. I agree, they are absolutely so worth it.
OH those fur kids they look very comfy and meant to be BFF's!
ReplyDeleteYour room is very inviting & cozy! I love the table in there, wish I had room for one, I think my Grandgirls would use it tons when they visit.
Enjoy...
Thank you. The dogs are really enjoying each other's company. It is so heartwarming to watch. Have a great day!
DeleteLove your winter changes in the family room! What can you tell me about your flooring? I know you remodeled this room a few years ago. Did you install the flooring? How is it holding up? I appreciate anything you can share! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you!! We did install this flooring and it is holding up beautifully. We purchased it at Lowes about 5 years ago. It was by Shaw and they called it Hand Scraped Vintage Oak in the color Hazelnut. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a link to it for a few years.
DeleteLove all the pops of orange & browns!! Really cozy & wintery but still bright & cheery :))).

Thanks so much, Paige!! I miss seeing you on Instagram. I need to find more time to get back on there more.
DeleteLovely! I love the oranges, the basket on the wall and those puppies!!! I could just squish their faces.. in a good way of course :)
ReplyDeleteThank you!! And I do squish those puppies (in a good way) every day :)
DeleteI have been searching for a console table like your black one, and a tall, long, but not deep to go under it exactly like the ones pictured here! Where did you find them? Are they still available?
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra,
DeleteThe black console table is from JCPenney many years ago. I ordered it online and we put it together ourselves. I am not sure if they still have anything similar. Sorry I couldn’t give you an exact source. Thanks for visiting my blog!
How about the basket? If it's not available, are there particular search terms that might lead me to one like it? Thanks so much!
DeleteThe basket is a TJ Maxx find from a few years ago, but I have seen similar baskets quite frequently at HomeGoods too. I find that with those stores it is really hit or miss. I hope you can find something that works for you!
