A Fall Weekend in the Adirondacks

We spent this past weekend in Upstate NY, more because we had to than because we wanted to.  There was lots of rain and a possible hurricane in the weather forecast, but we were running out of time to get our boat our of the water for the season.  Lately, going away just hasn't been as appealing to me.  I am reluctant to be further away from my mom.  But, upstate we went, and, surprisingly enough, we were rewarded with a wonderful fall weekend.

We left the pouring rain in NJ behind and arrived in the mountains just in time to catch this gorgeous sunset.  First thing the next morning, it was a chilly ride for Billy to get the boat from the dock to the launch so he geared up in his parka, hat and gloves.  Not his usual boating attire.
The fall colors were beautiful up in the higher elevations.  This creek is just down the road from our house.

We took a drive to see some more color and the clouds looked like a painting.

Next weekend will probably be "peak" for leaf peeping in this area.  It is hard to pinpoint the best time to visit in advance.  Every year is different and this year is actually a couple of weeks later than last year.

I hope you enjoyed a peek at our fall weekend.   Do you have any plans to see some fall foliage this year?

For reasons I have yet to figure out, my last post never made it out to those of you who read through my e-mail feed.  If you'd like to see more fall pictures and some of my favorite finds this fall, I hope you'll click on over to that post here.

  2. Oh my, it is lovely! If it was that pretty at our lakehouse...I would move there. A few trees turned early here, but now most trees are GREEN. We usually peak around the 10th...I am really hoping for some pretty color this year. Your photos are beautiful, Courtney!

    1. Thank you, Linda! I hope you get to see some beautiful fall color this year too. The leaves changing are definitely a couple of weeks behind this year. I am hoping to see some pretty color at home in NJ soon too.

  4. The fall colors are beautiful~~~you definitely captured that in your pictures, Courtney. Love the mountain shots, too. I've never been to this area so it's a treat to see.

We used to go through the same thing with our boat at the lake, both in the spring and fall. Now we have the marina do it for us. Not too expensive and so worth it considering all the other chores we have before and after summer.

Hope your mom is doing well and of course, Forrest.

  6. Such gorgeous fall colors! You are right, it really is hard to time it right because every year is different. We won't be heading up to Vermont for at least another month so we will miss the peak up there :(
    Have a great week!
