Spring!

I am not sure I remember ever enjoying a spring as much as we are this year.
After the long winter, we are just so happy to get outside.  We have been enjoying our evening walks in the woods.  I often take pictures when we are in Upstate NY, but I am trying to appreciate more of the beauty right here in NJ so I have been bringing my camera along.

This wooded area is right in our town and it is one of our favorite spots to visit.  The smell of the tall pines reminds us of the Adirondacks.  Matthew, my youngest boy, and I found this hollowed out tree. It was fun to consider what might live here...perhaps a hobbit? :)

Spring also means trips to the garden center.  I impulsively picked up a Gardenia plant (shrub?) at Home Depot this week and it smells heavenly.  I know nothing about growing gardenias, and found out after doing some research online that they can be difficult to grow in our area.  Oh well, I will try my best (with my non-green thumb) and enjoy the scent of the flowers while they last.  It is in a container in our covered patio area.

On my afternoon ride to pick up my oldest son at his high school to drop him off at work, I pass over this beautiful area.  Always a treat when the trees bloom in spring.  I took this picture from the car.

And decided these trees were worthy of stopping.

Back at our house, we are busy mulching, opening the pool, and planting flowers.  Even though there is so much work to be done, it feels great to be outside (except for the itchy eyes and sneezing).  Inside the house, I have a new bookshelf project to share later this coming week.

I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

  2. Wow, what gorgeous pics! I know what you mean about being excited for spring this year! I am loving this weather this weekend and it would just be perfect if it wasn't for my son's allergies. They are SO bad this year! His usual allergy medication is not keeping up so I hope these trees hurry up and finish blooming so he has some relief. But those flowering blossoms sure are beautiful, aren't they?!!

    1. Thanks Kris, I thought that picture of my son, Matty, just said everything I feel about spring this week after that long winter!

Yay for 80’s in your area too! I can’t wait to see pictures of your gorgeous flowers. I started planting some this past weekend too and it just feels so good to be outside.

  4. Your pictures are fantastic, those budding trees are spectacular! A walk in the woods is the perfect way to enjoy the beginning of spring. I've been doing yard clean up and trying to figure out what to do with some spots that aren't working. By next week people here will be planting flowers and if you don't get out early, the best are picked over. Still, I like to have everything looking nice before I make up pots, etc.

We are up to 80 today but those spring allergens are blowing around and I'm going crazy!! ;-)

    1. Hi Jane,

I planted some flowers this weekend because, like you said, once Mother's Day passes there is barely anything decent left at the garden center. It feels like there is suddenly so much work to get done in the yard at this time of year. But I am glad to hear you have been enjoying warm temps too, despite the pollen :-)
