Hello friends! Today I am sharing a few pictures of my office space. Our house has four bedrooms and we have three kids. That means my "office" is actually a corner of our family room. It works well most days. Except when all the kids are home from school and I have work to get done. I repeatedly tell Billy (my husband), "our next house will definitely have an office/craft room!", but the fact of the matter is, our next house will probably have all of those things because the bedrooms won't be full of kids. And I realize that maybe this little corner in the family room isn't so bad after all.
But what I really wanted to talk about today was making better use of space in my corner. I am an accidental blogger. I never set out to start a blog, it just kind of happened when I shared some pictures of our bathroom. In my mind, I have always looked at this blog as a hobby. Being a mom is my job, and sharing what I have learned about home design is fun. And I will keep thinking of it that way. But, when tax time comes around, it would be a bit helpful to my accountant (who is Billy -we are DIYers at everything possible) if I kept my papers in better order. Enter my new Elfa filing cart.
The front folders are for the blog and the rest are our household folders full of the paperwork and manuals room by room. I also made some copies of the more important papers that we keep in a fireproof safe, but I sometimes need access to. Every time I look at those aqua hanging file folders I smile. I used washi tape to organize the manila folders by color. Are you still as smitten with wash tape as I am?
I saw this idea on Pinterest to keep washi tape on a wooden dowel held by 2 Command Adhesive hooks and I knew it would be perfect by my desk. Love this idea!
I also added a magnetic chalkboard to the planked wall next to my desk. It is the Spontan board from Ikea. It used to come in white and that is what I used for our Kitchen Command Center. On my last trip to Ikea, I saw that it only comes in a silver color that I wasn't crazy about for this wall. I remedied that with some chalkboard spray paint and now I have a good size magnetic board for the space.
Speaking of wash tape, I also saw the idea on Pinterest to add it to your keyboard. I thought it looked so cool. So I carefully cut out squares and added it to my keyboard. I actually really enjoy little projects like that and it looked awesome when it was done. Too bad I didn't take a picture! Problem was, it started peeling up on the corners and got incredibly annoying when typing. So, piece by annoying piece, I have been removing it. The few that are left have been holding on for a week or so now. Maybe they will stay. Hey, no one said all ideas on Pinterest would be great.
It's taken me until February to finish it, but I am excited to stay organized in my new "office" this year.
I love your "Corner Office"!! Great use of space and I also love the Filing Cart. How did you make the revolving pen/scissors holder on your desk?
ReplyDeleteHi Susan. Thanks! The revolving pencil holder is from TJMaxx a couple of weeks ago. I think it was around $10 and it was with the office stuff.
DeleteCourtney....I too love your office space. I am addicted to washi tape and have some in a big ole glass jar!!!! I love digging through it to find the perfect tape for a project. speaking of projects....I can't wait to add washi to my keyboard!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Ahhh- a fellow washi tape addict :) I just love that stuff!!

Thank you!!! Same to you :)
DeleteHi Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI love your little corner office. I carved out a corner office in the back of my dining room. It is amazing how you can find unused space and make it useful. Your office is really sweet.
Kris
Thanks Kris!
DeleteCourtney, that filing cart is pretty neat. My hubby is reading over my shoulder and he thinks that would be great for me to have (I am totally unorganized in this aspect, too). He even is offering a spot in his library next to the computer. Chalk up one for you!..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteI just love that filing cart, Judy! It is helping tremendously in keeping things organized. Have a great weekend!
DeleteI *really* need to organize my space better, and it's on my to-do list this spring. I really like how all you tapes are on that dowel!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! It had been on my to-do list for way too long as well. Isn't that a great idea for the washi tape? Another great idea found on Pinterest :)
