Christmas in the Kitchen

Welcome to our Christmas kitchen!  There is lots of holiday decor in this space.  We will spend lots of time here in the next few weeks, baking cookies, preparing holiday meals and just hanging out as a family.

I added a couple of preserved boxwood wreaths (from Target) to the front of our glass cabinet doors with some red and white gingham ribbon.

It is always fun to decorate the mantel hood over the stove.  This year I used a plate my mom gave me (from Macy's), a couple of boxwood topiaries and our "believe" banner from HomeGoods a couple of years back.

We originally purchased the candle chandelier (seen over our island in the picture below) from the outdoor patio department at Lowes several years ago.  This year, we hung it over our kitchen island and added some greenery along with red candles.  It makes the whole room feel so festive.
The wreath hanging on the side of the white island is from Trader Joes.  They have such a great assortment of fresh wreaths and are so affordable too!

When we have guests over during the holiday season, we remove the teal bar stools and create a buffet on this island.  I added a command adhesive hook so we can add a wreath.

I added some garland and mercury glass ornaments to the chandelier over our dining table.

I made the red and white check curtains from tablecloths for the front window last year (more about them here).  This year, I hung them in the dining area.  We hang the Christmas cards we receive on the garland and on these french doors.  By the time Christmas day arrives, these doors will be filled with the faces of our family and friends... one of my favorite parts of the Christmas season!

We add a new kitchen themed ornament (purchased at Sur La Table's after Christmas sale) to our small kitchen tree each year.  We might need a bigger tree soon.

Some fresh garland and more mercury glass ornaments decorate our kitchen windows along with the cookie cutter wreath that I made a couple of weeks ago.

I painted the tree farm signs last year for our entryway, and this year they are decorating our newly painted hutch.

  2. Your kitchen is just stunning, Courtney! Your Christmas decorations just add to what a great room this is. I can imagine it is a wonderful space to spend time in whether your are cooking or just enjoying a cup of coffee. Love the boxwood wreaths you found at Target. Your red and white check curtains fit right in with the holiday, too. It just looks like a really festive and happy place to be!

  3. Courtney, you did such an AMAZING job! Those wreaths hanging with the ribbon over the cabinets are one of my favorites and I love the chandelier with the candles - and I am so jealous you have a Trader Joe's nearby! All the red and checks just make it all so festive. LOVE it!

    1. Hi Shelley!
Thanks so much. You may be jealous of our Trader Joes’s, but I am jealous of your Wegmans!! My mom often stops at Trader Joe’s when she comes to visit me. Let me know if there is ever anything you want me to pick up for you and I can meet you when I am in your area. Hope you are having a great weekend. It is rainy and foggy here this morning so hopefully it is better where you are.

  4. Courtney,
It all is so beautiful. I made those same curtain out of table clothes for my dining room this year too. Adding the red to the whites was fun. Yours looks so festive and pretty.

  6. Love your kitchen, Courtney! All the wreaths look so pretty and I love the little piece you have on the end of the white island. Looks like it's handy for holding plates, dish towels, etc. I've been thinking of adding something similar to the end of one of my cabinets. Do you happen to remember where you purchased it? Your hutch is decorated beautifully too! Love it all!

    1. Hi Lisa,

Thank you! I love that wire holder on the end of my island. It has been so useful. We use it to hold our paper plates, lunch bags, and dish towels. I purchased it at HomeGoods. I think it was in the office section/home organization section.

  8. Courtney, your kitchen is gorgeous! I especially love the boxwood wreaths hanging in front of the glass cabinets. Can you tell me how you hang them? I like the look of the ribbon wrapping the top of the door. Merry Christmas! Thank you, Lourdes

    1. Hi Lourdes! Thank you so much for your sweet words about our kitchen. I think the boxwood wreaths on the glass doors are my favorite decoration in there this year. I actually just looped the ribbon over the clamp that is holding the glass in on the inside of our cabinet and they have held. If they hadn't, I was planning on using a flat white thumbtack to put into the wood on the inside of the cabinet door. I hope I explained that well enough. Merry Christmas! Courtney

    1. Thank you, Stephanie. Our stove is a Kenmore Pro from Sears. When they go on sale, they are an amazing value for a stove that has that high end look. And we have been thrilled with how it functions. I love to cook and bake and this has been the best range (by far) that we have ever owned. Wow, Sears should pay me for that ad..lol! But I really love that stove :)

  13. Wow Courtney, everything looks so beautiful. I especially love the mantel over the stove with that gorgeous plate and the boxwoods. I think I need to get myself to Target. My husband just brought all the decorations down from the crawl space . We had planned on getting the tree yesterday but since it was pouring we didn't want to bring a wet tree into the house. Time seems to fly by in December. I always enjoy coming here to visit you and your beautiful home!

    1. Thanks so much, Jeanette! Yesterday was such a miserable day. My son works at a farm that sells Christmas trees and he said it was a long day of loading Christmas trees onto cars in the pouring rain. I agree, December is flying by! I always appreciate when you visit so thank you. Have a great week!
