I am so excited about how our new planked wall has turned out in our family room! Every once in a while, I get an idea of what I hope something will look like in my head, and then cross my fingers that it turns out well. It doesn't always end up as well as I plan. Does that happen to you too? But this was one of those projects that turned out better than I pictured.
We used thin 1/8inch MDF, which we ripped down into 6 inch strips to create the wall (tutorial coming soon!). It was so much easier than we thought it would be (and cheaper thanks to the MDF) and I love the cottage-y, rustic feel it adds.
It's a bit early for Christmas decor, but I knew I wanted to create a winter themed gallery wall. This winter theme should take us past the Christmas season.
Our family loves spending time in the snow in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY and this wall reflects that.
Finally, I thought it might be helpful to list many of the sources used. Many of the elements have been collected over time, but some are recent purchases.
And now I am super excited to decorate the rest of this room for Christmas!
The planked wall looks amazing! Really love that cottagy rustic look that it gives. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Tracey. I really do love what it adds to this room! Thank you for stopping by :)
DeleteThe planked wall looks great, Courtney! I love your gallery, too. I can see you have used things that mean something to you, which is one of the things I love about gallery walls.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, Thank you!! I agree with you about gallery walls. They have become my favorite design element in any home.
DeleteIt's beautiful Courtney. I love the personal pieces and that adorable deer head with the scarf! And I see that your boxwood wreath seems to be holding up too!

Oh Courtney,
ReplyDeleteLOOOVE! This is probably one of my most favorite things you have done. Love the planked wall and love all the personal styling to the gallery wall and how it reflects you and your family. Swooning over this project. It looks so great Seriously you Rocked it out on this one!
Kris
Hi Kris!
DeleteThank you so much for your great compliment. You sure know how to make a girl feel good! :) I just love the personality this wall adds to our room. I think it is the truest reflection of our family in the whole house.
Have a great day,
Courtney
I love this look! I get really nervous about hanging lots of things on the walls, but I'd love to try something like this. Do you use command hooks or something temporary, if so, do they truly hold up ok?? Super pretty, love your style so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Laura, Thank you!! I do use a lot of command products to hang stuff on our walls as long as it isn't too heavy. I used it for almost everything on this wall except the deer head and the sled because they are heavier. I like to have the option to change stuff around..which I obviously do quite often ;) We never let a small hole in the wall stop us from giving our house some extra warmth and personality. There is always spackle and touch up paint!
DeleteI love it Courtney!! It came out so great and it looks rustic. Makes me think cozy!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette! It definitely adds some coziness :)
DeleteThe wall looks amazing and I absolutely love your winter gallery wall. We recently planked a wall in one of our bedrooms. Like you, we were surprised how easy it was and wow what a difference it made!

ReplyDeleteMy first time visiting and I love this!! I love the color of the chairs, the rug...all of it. This is definitely my style and you have done an outstanding job on the wall! What's really great is that's it's doable...within most people's price range. Very creative Courtney!
ReplyDeleteThank you!! Yes, it is definitely a very doable project. Affordable and adds so much personality to a room. Thank you for stopping by :)
DeleteCourtney, I love your planked wall. I think I am going to have to talk my husband into this one! I can't believe how warm and cottage-y this makes that area look. Just when I thought that your home couldn't get any cuter!!!! (do you mind to share your source for the pretty glass jar?)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea! The glass jar was from HomeGoods. It was with the vases at the store.
DeleteAll your accessories go together so well & play so nicely against one another! I love the rustic /prep/holiday feel! One of my favorite gallery walls for sure friend!!!
