I have been wanting to try dipping leaves in wax to preserve them for a couple of years but never quite got around to doing it. When we were in Upstate NY last weekend, we finally did. It was a fun and easy project! First, we took a nice long walk to gather some pretty leaves.
Many of the prettiest leaves had already fallen so we picked some up off the ground. The leaves from this pretty tree were falling right on us.
Forrest came along and rested in the leaves for a bit. It was his 9th birthday on this day!
Then, we came home and melted some parafin wax in an old pot. I bought the wax at Michaels and melted it on the stovetop over a pot of boiling water. It didn't take long for the wax to melt. Maybe 5 minutes.
We dipped the leaves and let them drip over the pot of wax before allowing them to dry on some waxed paper. We hung them in a window with fishing line.
They looked so pretty with the light shining in.
This was a fun & easy project that the whole family ended up enjoying!
Courtney,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. They do look so pretty waxed and hanging on the fishing line. Happy B Day to Forest.

Thanks Kris! I am curious to see how long they stay looking pretty. Forrest says, "Thank you for the birthday wishes.". Have a great weekend!
DeleteWow, what a great idea! ...and such a simple craft that even I could handle! And I must say, Forrest is looking very handsome! Enjoy your weekend Courtney!
