Are you excited for the start of Summer? I sure I am and for me that translates into making some changes around the house. I recently added a few touches of Americana style to our family room. I just love the look of an American flag on a stone fireplace. I was inspired to create one for ours after watching "American Dream Builders" a few weeks ago. It was on the episode that they remodeled the cabins in Big Bear and all of the designers were all "we hate the woods" and I was thinking that all of the cabins were gorgeous. I have to say that they did a great job. Here's a picture of the cabin that inspired me.
We dream of having a cabin like that. Sigh. Back to reality in our suburban split level, I decided to make my flag out of some wooden planks we had in our basement and I think it adds just the right touch to the mantel for the summer. I also brought out our sailboat that I like to use to fill the black hole that our fireplace becomes at this time of year. The sunflowers from Trader Joe's are an affordable way ($3.99) to add some color and freshness.
I borrowed some pillows with red, white and blue from around the house and added a quilt to the back of the sofa.
Our Golden Retriever, Forrest, with his red bandanna, just seems to be a part of the decor :) We wish you a fun and happy summer and thank you for stopping by.

Oh Forrest looks adorable! What a nice pose too! Your whole family room looks gorgeous Courtney! The red white and blue is so cheerful and really gives that summer vibe. I always dream that if I had a beach house, I would use those colors. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
