Last year was a busy year of home projects. Which got expensive. We spend a lot less on our home than we would have if we didn't DIY, but the costs add up nonetheless. Our Master Bath came in at $7,000 and we invested $6,000 in our pool. Ouch. Not to mention all of the smaller projects which certainly add up.
DIY-ing is our passion and our hobby. We don't take expensive vacations or drive expensive new cars. So of course, although we plan to spend much less this year, we do have some plans in the works.
Here are a few of the plans in the works:
1. A new coffee table for the living room. Square with a shelf on the bottom. Billy would like to either build or diy something. Currently, we have a dark brown "leather" ottoman that was purchased on the cheap a bunch of years ago.
I would like something lighter and brighter that functions better for us. The soft surface of the ottoman isn't great for legos, board games or many of the other things we like to use our coffee table for. Plus, one of our dogs thinks it is a nice comfortable spot to curl up and take a nap, knocking off anything that was placed on there.
We are considering hacking an Ikea table. The square Hemnes is the perfect size and shape. Adding some planks and stain to the top make this an affordable and easy option.
Or, Billy is considering building a coffee table. I haven't found a building plan for the right square one yet.
2. Entryway
We added some planking to the walls before Christmas but now we would like to add a bit more charm to this space.
3. Trim
We have changed the trim in most of our house, but there are still a few windows and doors that we haven't finished. 2014 is the year to wrap that up.
4. Basement
We are currently working on purging a lot of the stuff that has piled up in our basement. Our basement is an unfinished storage area, but it could be so much more functional if it were organized. Definitely not a fun job, but this is the year we are, finally, tackling it.
5. Front Door
I have disliked our front door since the first time I saw this house 7 years ago. It has taken us this long to do something about it!
Do you usually make a list of goals? I do not but since this is our year to get organized, I thought I would give it a try.
We usually don't write a goal list for the house, but after reading yours I am going to. Maybe then we will get some of them done.

ReplyDeleteKeep on diy-ing your beautiful house, it's a pleasure to see the changes! :)
Hi Carolin,
DeleteThanks so much for that link. I love what Kate did. I had seen others on Pinterest, but not hers, so thanks for showing me.
Thanks for visiting. Have a great day,
Courtney
I don't, but I think it's a great idea and I'm going to do it! Thanks...
ReplyDeleteGreat list and I am so impressed with the work your husband is able to do. I wish "we" had the same skills and enthusiasm around here! I always make lists but end up adding to them as I go along. The lists helped me stay organized and it's always so much fun to cross things off!
