Master Bedroom

We recently completed our Master Bedroom and it is so nice to have a bedroom that reflects us.  Goodbye 80's shag carpet!  While we were painting, we kept wondering why we didn't paint years ago.  It really is incredible how much change a coat of a paint brings.  We painted our headboard with oil rubbed bronze spray paint and it's like a whole new piece of furniture....

I struggled with what to put over the bed for weeks.  I visited every HomeGoods, TJ Maxx and Marshalls in our area.  I finally settled on this framed chalkboard that I added our monogram to with chalk.

My favorite purchase (and biggest splurge) was on bedding.  I searched for a vintage quilt, but because I needed king size, there wasn't much out there.  We ended up with the Multistar Patchwork Quilt from Pottery Barn and I love it.

The only new piece of furniture that we purchased was the bluish gray side table (Preston table from World Market).

The new window seat is very inviting.   I am a book lover so I enjoy having some of my books on display.  The bookshelves are actually part of a repurposed wall unit.  You can read more about that here.

There are lots of throw pillows (I *may* have a slight throw pillow addiction).  None have a specific spot.  I like to move them around.  They all coordinate.  And that makes it easier for my husband when he makes the bed :)

A peek into our bathroom from the bedroom.  Now it doesn't feel like such a shock to walk out of our pretty bathroom into our old ugly bedroom.

My mother made the stained glass lamp and recently passed it on to me.

Even though I had visions of a chandelier in this room, the ceiling fan ultimately stayed.  We use the fan almost every night and we decided we would miss it.  We moved our Ikea gray check slipcovered chair up here too.

We have had this pine bedroom furniture since we bought our first home.  There was a time when I thought it was too "country" and considered replacing it.  I am glad I didn't.  More recently, I have become more confident in my own style and country pine is what I love.  This furniture is extremely well made and I now plan on keeping it for a long time.

  1. Courtney, I LOVE this room! It is so warm and inviting and looks like something designer, Sarah Richardson would come up with! Nice job. Oh, and you mentioned that Ikea chair. I was thinking about getting that in white and was wondering if you would recommend it. It would go in the corner in my office and would not get too much use. Thanks! Have a great week!

    1. Thanks so much, Shelley! You made my day. Sarah Richardson is my absolute favorite designer. I would definitely recommend the Ikea chair. It is certainly not the most comfortable chair in the house, but it isn't horrible either. The size is perfect for a corner. The price is right so I say go for it. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Erin! The hanging lanterns are from Target. The brand is Smith and Hawken. We used battery powered candles with timers and they go on for 4 hours every evening. Have a great day!

  7. We are leaving the ceiling fan in our MBR as well. We use it all the time, and Himself would balk at replacing it with a chandelier! However, when we finally install my clawfoot tub in the bathroom, I'll hang a chandelier over that for sure!

    1. I just love a chandelier over the tub. Unfortunately for us in our Master Bath, it wasn’t "to code" so we couldn’t put one in:( I hope you are able to! I must admit that on hot nights, I am glad we never removed the ceiling fan over our bed.

  9. I LOVE your pine furniture!! Can you tell me the brand in case it is till being made? We had an entertainment center that looks like it matched. It was Broyhill. I loved it but after a few moves, it didn't make it (it got dropped and that was fatal - heartbreak).

    1. Hi Karen. Thanks so much! We purchased the pine furniture just after we got married 20 years ago and it was a bit of a spurge, but definitely worth it since it was so well made. It is not Broyhill, but unfortunately I do not remember the manufacturer name. We got it directly from North Carolina. It is very similar to the pine bedroom furniture that Yield House sells.
