DIY Autumn Centerpiece

My kids still have two weeks left of summer vacation, but I can't seem to get Fall off my mind.  Almost all of the things I have been pinning have been related to Fall.  One of my favorite Autumn decorations from last year was a centerpiece we made from some scrap wood.  I can't wait to take it out of storage in our basement, but I am forcing myself to wait a few more weeks...

My husband simply screwed together wood planks to make a box and I stained it dark walnut.  We added a couple of oil rubbed bronze handles (purchased at Lowes) to the ends to dress it up a bit.  I then filled the box with floral foam.  From there, I arranged a bunch of Fall decorations (leaves, pumpkins and berries) that I bought at Christmas Tree Shop and Michaels.  I also added some battery powered pillar candles and tapers.  It sat on our dining room table through Thanksgiving and then I decorated it with pine and berries for Christmas.  I love how rustic and versatile this box is!

I will be back this week with pictures from the summer.  Summer isn't quite over yet!

  3. My husband is a carpenter loves making me little stuff when he can. I can't wait to ask him to make this for me. And when you said it goes right through Christmas, my heart skipped a beat. I LOVE versatile decor and loved your idea for dressing it up for both seasons. Thanks for the inspiration! Your blog and home are just beautiful!
