Our family room was previously a small, dark room off the back of our house. Here is what it looked like before. This is the only picture I can find right now. Sorry for the mess but it's actually what it looked like most days. Two small windows were the only elements that brought light in to the space...
Family Room Before We doubled the size and added a triple slider to bring some more light in. Our old Broyhill entertainment center was painted and used upstairs in our kitchen (minus the tv armoire). We also added a corner stone fireplace and a small mudroom. I was going for a comfortable, library feel for this space. |
Having 3 boys has taught me a LOT about what works and what doesn't when it comes to home design. Medium toned wood is the most forgiving when it comes to dirt and dog hair. I like love the look of white slipcovered sofas. I don't love washing white slipcovers every day, so I have a leather sofa that I can wipe down. Our current area rug is an indoor/outdoor type from Ikea. It is rough on your feet, but is wearing very well. I am still on the lookout for another area rug to layer over this to soften it up.
Our gallery wall. I like the display ledge because I can change things out easily. I love how our gallery wall represents everything that is important to our family.
Sitting by the fireplace, reading a book, is where you can find me in the Fall and Winter. I love decorating the mantel with the seasons. Here is our current Nautical Summer Mantel.
Our foyer is on the same level as the family room.
This is what it looks like when you enter the front door. There will sometimes always be a Golden or two to greet you.
Thanks for visiting our family room. Come back and visit us soon!
Lovely! Has a very "home-y" feeling to it =)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nora! It is a very comfortable, relaxed space.
DeleteYou have a beautiful family room and entry! I love being greeted by a golden too!

Hi Shelley! There is nothing like a greeting from a golden! Have a great day!!
DeleteI told you how happy I was to find another split level owner. Your split reminds me of ours, except ours is a lot smaller. We have a corner fireplace too. We also have a gate at the top of the stairs. We put it in when we moved here because my lil guy was a baby. He's 8 now, but we have lil ones that visit, so we kept it. Your family room is absolutely gorgeous.
